I didn’t want to go.
I’ve sent them all out a few different times, but today I recalled that Sunday afternoon two years ago when we played and played the hours away. My leave of absence was dwindling and that was the year of the dreaded ice storm before the holidays and the subzero temps in late January. So, given the chance to actually be out to play in the snow – we did!
Today, I didn’t want to go.
My head had been hurting all morning, and my emotions were running through me just below the surface of my smile. It had already been a long day and I was ready to get to work on whatever crazy list of things I had to get completed. I’m not sure what changed, but I decided to join the fray….just a few minutes I thought.
“You’re coming out too?” Calder asked in disbelief.
I wordlessly answered his question with a quick raise of my eyebrows and a sneaky grin that let him know he was in for it, especially since it was his idea to have the snowball fight in the first place.
I didn’t want to go…
…but I went anyway. We spent the next hour or more building snowmen (or a snow Princess Leia and BB8), tossing snowballs at each other with the occasional boulder crushed over someone’s head for additional amusement. I watched as they played, not caring about the cold, wet snow or their reddening cheeks. Not once hearing an argument or hint of bickering. There were a few whines and growls when the sudden attention (a.k.a. a barrage of snowballs blasted in her direction) weren’t what she was wanting. There were even a few tears, but only because Dad wasn’t confident in his ability to hit his target – which he hit straight on, startling him more than anything.
We had the best time today during our family snowball fight.
What a super fun day! Nothing better than being outside with family. 🙂
