There’s nothing like the sound of a sleeping house. Forgotten sounds like the gentle clinks of my bamboo chimes and the faraway bark of a neighborhood dog find their way into the quiet. I imagine the rise and fall of cozy blankets over sleeping bodies, the sweaty heads. I stop and wait to see if the calls are in earnest or mere response to dreams so vivid they require a response. There is comfort, and peace, and quiet in a sleeping house. There is healing and hope in this unplanned day.
As much as the squeals and peals of laughter breathe life and energy into this space, the hush of a quiet afternoon offers a chance to rest, recover and begin again.
This post was written as part of a monthly challenge sponsored by Two Writing Teachers, to encourage writing and community. The goal is to write a Slice of Life entry each day throughout the month of March.
There are so many good eggs in this post. My favorites:
– “forgotten sounds” I hear how soft and gentle they are, easily missed during the hectic and noisy daytime hours.
– “dreams so vivid they require a response” – delicious.
– the link on the word “rest” to a darling photo
May you find nourishment

“healing and hope in an unplanned day” – my favorite phrase in your post
Hi Amanda,
We seem to intersect at only the best places: NWP, DAIS and Slicing. See you later with your DAIS release. As for right now I am also writing in a sleeping “room”. I love the sounds in your sleeping house.
