The sun streamed through the kitchen windows throwing welcome bits of warmth across the floor where Calder and I sat catching up about the day. The joy in his little smile as I gave him undivided attention reminded me it’s something I should do much more often instead of offering a pat, “Just a second,” or “As soon as I finish….”
We laughed.
We played.
We tickled.
We giggled.
We called for Seneca to join in our pre-lunch fun. I had wondered what was keeping her so entertained as she’s usually the first one in on the type of fun we were having.
“OK, I’m coming!” she hollered from the living room.
Moments later, I saw her appear in the doorway her hands full of cards.
“These aren’t yours,” she whispered, before turning to run when she saw me climbing to my feet. Sure enough, my wallet lay on the floor completely gutted. Every credit, membership, frequency, and gift card clutched in her toddler hands. With a surprisingly simple request, she surrendered the cards, and we all made our way back to the sun-streaked kitchen.

Oops! Your wallet must fascinate her. I enjoyed the way you started, then got to the heart of the story. Still a nice moment; good she didn’t drop it all in the fish tank, or worse!
