Today, students used their openers to get into the zone of mysteries. With each passing hour, I found myself smiling at the chances I saw them taking in their writing. The great used of interesting verbs and excellent adjectives. How calling them away from their computers to learn a little more about how to tag their posts and leave quality comments was so difficult because they were really on a roll!
Sprinkled throughout the morning, we shared a few laughs about how missing one letter completely changes the story (mayo vs. mayor), or how too much enthusiasm to return to the center of the room might mean an unpleasant meeting of support beam and student!
So even though I often wonder why other classes seem to sitting quietly in the computer labs, working intently and whispering ne’er a word to one another, I don’t think I’ll worry quite as much about what I’m doing wrong. Because today, when we laugh and students tell me they didn’t want to stop writing, and I hear comments that affirm they’re learning, I find myself embracing the chaos!
