The gritty grind of
his training wheels offered
me comfort
as I listened for his
scratchy scraping coming
around the far corner
of the loop he was
allowed to ride.
Then, the slow rise
of those wheels
and ever-lengthening
stretches of
“riding quietly”
until today.
“I’m gonna go home
and ride on two-wheels,”
he declared.
It’s only been
one week into Kindergarten,
one summer of practice,
one afternoon with a friend already on two wheels.
and that’s all it took.
Time.
Practice.
Motivation.
Decision.
I’m so proud of you, Calder!
Love,
Mom
