Eight years.
It seems like
a matter of moments ago
that I was holding
my tiny newborn
bundle of boy,
born four weeks early,
and on his own schedule.
Today, we
celebrated and
evaluated just how
much has changed.
We look back with joy
and forward with
anticipation.
This year, we enjoyed
a birthday experience,
instead of a big party
with friends and food and
gifts.
It was all about
doing,
being,
enjoying,
together.
We laser-tagged,
trampoline-jumped,
dodge-balled and lovingly
name-called as we
“bumper-car”-ed one
another.
Far more than
the temporary fun
of a forgotten toy,
I’ll think back on
the look of sweaty
satisfaction as
both kids laughed
and dared and
loved life.

That sounds like so much fun! Today must be the day for birthdays! I celebrated two students’ birthdays today, and it was my sister’s as well!
What a fun poem of celebration. 🙂
