SOLSC ~ 4/31 ~ Remembering

Each year with this challenge, I find myself writing about similar topics – my kids, my family, nature, teaching – and since it’s always in March, I get to write about spring and dances and birthdays.  Yet, while these topics have grown very familiar, it’s amazing how I can still find something new to discover.

And that’s the power of writing.  The joy that makes the struggle and commitment so worth it.  Because if I don’t write down adorable quotes like the one my 7-year-old shared last week when she snuck a piece of gum from the pack on the table (“Sometimes, I’ve just got to flavor up my tastebuds, Mom!”) they will simply be lost in the clutter and beautiful messiness of life.

These stories form memories that trigger pictures in my mind.  When I reread old posts, I relive these treasured moments, and feel the sting of pain I had forgotten.  The good and the bad, these memories and stories are a collection of thoughts and feelings, of growth and healing.

I write to remember.

You have captured the essence of slice of life so well. – treasuring the moments, writing to remember. I too feel that I keep writing about the same things. From the posts we can see what is important in our lives.
